Degree Programs

Undergraduate

Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics.This program provides a student with the basic knowledge of various agricultural sciences and the basic tools of economic analysis used in identifying and solving economic problems of production and organization. The curriculum also provides the student with adequate background in the social sciences to enable him/her to appreciate the socio-economic framework of the economy. Students can choose from among four areas of specialization: production economics and farm management; marketing and price analysis; agricultural finance and cooperatives; and policy and development.

Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management.This program enhances expertise for increased managerial responsibility in farms, agro-industries, and public agencies of individuals engaged in planning and implementing agribusiness development projects/programs. Agribusiness is management in orientation and is concerned with both the technical side of agriculture and the management of a business. Agribusiness students are exposed to business concepts, economic principles and management tools necessary to solve marketing, financial, production, and personal concerns of agriculture-based businesses.

Bachelor of Science in Economics.This program produces graduates who possess: 1) skills in quantitative and policy analyses for teaching and research in economics; 2) the ability to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate economic concepts, issues, and data relevant to policy decision-making in the public or private sector; and 3) a deep appreciation of the economic issues and problems besetting the country, and an objective and critical attitude towards the arguments and policies meant to address them. Students may choose from two fields of specialization: Development Economics and Natural Resource Economics.

Research and Extension Programs

The College conducts R and E activities focused on promoting efficiency, equity, competitiveness, and environmental sustainability of economic activities. Through the ICOPED, a cooperative training provider, the college trains professionals who have the competency and skills to manage and operate cooperatives. CEM also offers the Summer Program in Economics and in the Master of Management. CEM collaborates with the Tokyo University of Agriculture in conducting the Philippine Bio-business Practice that provides TUA students with hands-on experience in tropical agriculture

Facilities

CEM maintains instruction facilities, a self-sufficient research library with a comprehensive collection of 10,000 volumes, research materials such as thesis, special problem, and field study reports, books, journals, and other reference materials.

Its Rural Economic Development and Renewable Energy Center (REDREC) is envisioned to serve as a research hub for inter- and intra- disciplinary research on alternative energy sources.

Major Contributions and Achievements

CEM faculty members have generated and disseminated novel ideas and research results through policy papers, books and articles for publication in local and international journals and through paper presentation in various academic conferences and seminars held in the Philippines and abroad.

These books and policy papers reflect our strong commitment to engage in policy analysis and advocacy on the different issues confronting the country’s agriculture and rural sectors. 

Career Prospects

Graduates are well-placed in the academe as well as in national and international business, research and development, financial, non-government and government organizations.
