UPLB-CTTE to hold Tech Transfer Day

The UPLB Center for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (UPLB-CTTE) will be holding a Technology Transfer Day on Oct. 17-18 to train faculty members and researchers on intellectual property and technology commercialization. The training will focus on food and biotechnology inventions.

On the first day, which will serve as the training day proper, Cedric Ben Gayares of the UP System Technology Transfer and Business Development Office will teach the 30 UPLB inventors on how to conduct prior art search and patent drafting. The learning activity aims to give the participants a keener insight and awareness in the process behind preparing inventions for patenting and possible licensing or mass production.

Meanwhile, the second day will have two primary events: a Fairness Opinion Board in the morning; and a recognition program in the afternoon.

The former will bring together inventors and people interested in marketing and licensing the inventions, with the hope of coming to a fair contract that will be beneficial to both sides. Staff members of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Technology Application and Promotion Institute will serve as moderators.

The latter, on the other hand, will recognize UPLB inventors who received UP System’s Invention Disclosure Incentive and whose technologies have been granted patents. The event’s keynote speaker is Dr. Gonzalo Serafica, a Balik-Scientist and a holder of multiple international patents. Industry leaders and officials from DOST, Department of Trade and Industry, and local government units are expected to attend the program. (Albert Geoffred B. Peralta)
