A pioneering effort in natural history museum curation is in progress at the UPLB campus.

Culture+Learning, Art+Design, Environment+Science (CLADES) Summit, the first of its kind in the country, is bringing together experts in biodiversity and collections management to enhance natural history collection management and operations. The Summit will be held on Sept 26-27 at SEAMEO-SEARCA, in the UPLB campus.

The event will be an avenue for presentations and discussions on topics such as the status of academe-based and private natural history museums and collections, best practices in collections management in the Philippine setting, and understanding natural history museums and public interaction.

It will feature guest speakers from prominent natural history collection institutions. Among them are Jeremy Robert Barns and Dr. Arvin Diesmos, director and senior scientist, respectively, of the National Museum of the Philippines; Amado Alvarez, head of the National Committee on Museums at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts;  Dr. Theresa Mundita Lim, director of the  DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau; Dr. George Argent from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, United Kingdom; Dr. Lawrence Liao, associate professor at Hiroshima University; and Dr. Juan Carlos Gonzalez, director of the UPLB Museum of Natural History (MNH).

The Summit is initiated by the UPLB MNH and co-organized by the Office of Chancellor, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, and SEAMEO-SEARCA.
