UPRHS holds 2nd junior high completion rites

The UP Rural High School (UPRHS) held its Moving-up Ceremony in the afternoon of May 31 at the DL Umali Auditorium, its second for Grade 10 Junior High School (JHS) students after the K to 12 Basic Education Program was implemented in SY 2012-2013.

Prior to receiving their JHS diplomas, the 121 completers were presented by Assoc. Prof. Liza C. Carascal, UPRHS principal, to Dr. Felino P. Lansigan, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Dr. Lansigan then confirmed the students as completers of JHS.

Leading the 32 honor completers is Dean Isaiah Cruz, who also reaped major academic awards, namely: Academic Excellence Award from CAS and UPRHS; Dr. Leonido R. Naranja Academic Excellence in Agriculture; Best in Social Studies; Best in Life Skills Education; and Gawad Akademiko for being the top student of Grade 10. Cruz received these awards during the Gawad Parangal, a program that honored outstanding students at all grade levels. It took place in the morning of the same day.

Rounding the roster of top five honor completers are Carlos Lowel E. Alvarez, James Matthew G. Borines, Luke B. Gealogo, and Daniel Emile F. Ching, all with honors.

Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., in his inspirational message delivered by Dr. Portia G. Lapitan, vice chancellor for academic affairs, reminded the JHS completers to maximize the learning opportunities that they will encounter in Senior High School.

“It is my hope that you will treat Senior High School as an opportunity to really consider, and take seriously, the academic path that you have chosen,” Dr. Lapitan read.  “This way, you shall have the necessary academic training and skills for college, as well as the emotional maturity to deal with exceptionally challenging situations.”

Serving as guest speaker was Alfinetta R. Bustrillos-Zamora, Class 1967 and this year’s golden jubilarian. The occasion also served as a venue to honor the Golden Jubilarians and Silver Jubilarians (Class of 1992) of the High School.

Augustus Ramos IV, president of the UPRHS Alumni Association, Inc., led the induction of the completers to the alumni organization. The ceremony ended with completers' rendition of the song "How Far I'll Go," led by Asst. Prof. Marife R. Maquera.

Other awardees who were honored at Gawad Parangal with the Gawad Akademiko were the top students of each grade level, namely: Andrew Thomas Mercado, Alexandra Heinrich Marco, Mariko Tsuji, and Mariella Aubrey Gancia. Another JHS completer, Frances Ann J. Aguda, also received the Naranja award in agriculture.
