UPLB to draft Ph water security roadmap

An interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral powerhouse from UPLB is going to map out plans and programs to ensure that a precious natural resource will continue to provide for the people’s needs in the next decades.

A UPLB committee has been tasked to draft the multi-sectoral Water Security Roadmap for the Philippines to come up with recommendations to ensure water security in the country.

The Committee will consolidate information and policies on water management. With stakeholders, it will identify plans, programs, and gaps on water resources governance, water quality, water rights, and watershed management.

Deans, faculty members, and researchers from 10 colleges and schools of UPLB make up the Committee to address water sectors relevant to their fields of expertise such as agriculture, environment, domestic, governance, economics, resilience, urban, and cross-cutting sectors.

The Roadmap will be presented during the National Water Summit on June 21. The said event will be spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through the National Water Resources Board.

Prior to the Summit, the UPLB team will organize a series of pre-summit meetings in Bohol, Davao, and the Senate.

The UPLB Committee to Formulate a National Water Security Roadmap is headed by Dr. Rex B. Demafelis, vice chancellor for research and extension. (Ma. Leoloura C. Fernandez and Mark Jayson E. Gloria)
