UPLB celebrates SyenSaya

The Los Baños Science Community Foundation Inc. (LBSCFI) and UPLB will be holding its three-day celebration of the SyenSaya on July 16-18.

SyenSaya, a science and technology festival, stems from the celebration of the National Science and Technology Week and is a science tourism program, the first of its kind in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia.

Dr. Luis Rey I. Velasco, UPLB chancellor and president of the LBSCFI, said that the festival aims to promote the town of Los Baños and the province of Laguna as premier science tourism and education destinations. The SyenSaya will be a venue where people from all walks of life will come to understand, appreciate, discover, and value the role of science in their everyday lives.

Themed, Making science work for you, this year's festival offers a special feature in Wonderama, an exhibit of scientific discoveries of UPLB and other LBSCFI member-agencies. It will be on display from July 16-18 at Baker Hall in UPLB.

SyenSaya will also feature a film showing and games – termed 'discovery shows' – which shall highlight the fusion of arts and sciences, where art is the medium and science is the subject. Meanwhile, science tours of the LBSCFI agencies will be ongoing.

The LBSCFI is a community of private and development agencies within and in the vicinity of the Los Baños Science and Nature City. For almost twenty four years now, the LBSCFI has committed itself towards the creation of a model community by addressing priority needs of the Los Baños community and similar environs through creativity and innovation. Its member organizations are diverse, yet complementary in their strengths in the sciences, arts, business, and social services.
