UPLB is going to have its turn at discussing issues with UP President Alfredo E. Pascual at the Kapihan with PAEP on Ethics and Public Service on Feb. 8, 2-5pm at the CAS Annex Auditorium.
The Kapihan, initiated in UP to regularly bring the university constituents together for free-wheeling discussions on university issues, has been hosted by various UP constituent campuses and is open to the public. The upcoming Kapihan at UPLB is the fifth. To set the tone for the interaction, Dr. Edna E. A. Co, dean of the National College of Public Administration and Governance of UP Diliman will give a talk on the theoretical perspective of ethics and public service. Three resource persons will then share their experiences with the public on ethics and public service in carrying out the mandates of a research university such as UPLB. The resource persons are Dr. William Padolina, deputy director general for operations of the International Rice Research Institutions (IRRI), who will share his experiences in administration and research. Dr. Padolina was a former UPLB professor and held several administrative positions at UPLB before joining IRRI. Prof. Alleli Ester C. Domingo, associate professor at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics, will talk on ethics and public service in teaching. Dr. Rowena DT. Baconguis, director of the UPLB Pahinungod, will discuss her experiences in exercising ethics and doing public service while performing extension functions and while overseeing the University's volunteerism arm. The talks will then give way to the open forum after which President Pascual will give his reaction to the issues raised in the Kapihan. Apart from UPLB faculty and staff, members of the Los Baños science community as well as UPLB students are expected to take part in the Kapihan.
