UPLB once again held the traditional Parolan, to celebrate the Christmas season in the campus. The lantern contest, held on Dec. 14 at the DL Umali Hall, had for its theme "Handog sa Sentenaryo ng UPROTC: Pagpapalawak sa Kamalayan ng Pagkalinga sa Kalikasan Ngayong Kapaskuhan."
Thirteen participated in this year's Parolan, namely, Kabataan Partylist, College of Public Affairs, Horticulture Society, Upsilon Sigma Phi, UPhilSams, UP Cells, Entomology Society, Awardees '11, Demolay, PASES, Ecosystemss, Gawad Kalinga, and PhiloBioscentia. UPhilSams won the Best Lantern award while Krinzel Marie Pascua of UP CELLS was named as the Mutya ng Parolan 2011.
Parolan 2011 was sponsored by the UPLB Corps of Cadets and Corps of Sponsors in cooperation with the UPLB Administration, Office for Initiative in Culture and the Arts and by SMART Telecommunications, Enchanted Kingdom and Angping Online.com. Participation was open to UPLB organizations, colleges, clubs, and students.
The first place winner in the Parolan was awarded Php20,000 and a trophy; while the second and third place winners received a trophy each and Php15,000 and Php10,000, respectively. The Mutya ng Parolan was also awarded Php 3,000. The following special awards were also given: Most Artistic, with a cash prize of Php2,000 and a trophy; Most Environment Friendly, Chancellor's Choice, and UP Vanguard's Award were given tophies; and the largest delegation received Php1,000.
