The UP Los Baños Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems (MCME) will be conducting a forum on Mt. Makiling’s ecotourism potentials on March 4 during the second Laguna Business and Investment Exposition (LBIX). LBIX 2010 will be held at Enchanted Kingdom in Sta. Rosa, Laguna from March 4 to 5.
MCME Deputy Director Roberto P. Cereno will be discussing why Mt. Makiling has been declared as one of the country’s key ecotourism sites and how tourism investors and business entities can participate in the development of ecotourism sites and products under long term lease or joint venture agreement with the University. According to Cereno, Mt. Makiling’s ecotourism will put premium on the mountain’s primary function as a conservation reserve for science and education in accordance with Republic Act 6967, the law that placed Mt Makiling Forest Reserve under the jurisdiction and administration of UP Los Baños.
LBIX 2010 is a two-day event that will showcase the province’s business potential through the scientific and economic developments it has achieved towards agro-industrialization. The Provincial Government of Laguna, City Government of Sta. Rosa, the Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna, the Cooperative Development Authority, and the Laguna Tourism Council organized the exposition.
