Five teams will once again compete for the overall championship as the annual Palarong UPLB unfolds on Jan 28-31 at various sporting venues in the campus. This year's theme, "Palarong UPLB: Attaining T.E.A.M. Work Through Sports," highlights one of the goals of the administration of Chancellor Luis Rey Velasco.

The College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) is this year's Palaro host. The CFNR is part of the quartet that makes up the Yellow Raptors team which also includes the College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Human Ecology, and the units under the Office of the Chancellor.

Last year's winner, the Blue Wapakels, is composed of members of the College of Arts and Sciences and units under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Instruction. Blue Wapakels has won three overall championships since the games resumed in 2006.

Strong contenders for the overall championship are the 2007 overall champion Royal White. The team is composed of the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology and offices under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development, and the Green Hunters of the College of Agriculture and the units under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension.

Attempting to bounce back this year are the Red Griffins which is composed of the College of Economics and Management, College of Development Communication, College of Public Affairs, School of Environmental Science and Management, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs and offices under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration.

The sporting events this year include basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, cheering competition, lawn tennis, badminton, table tennis, chess, athletics, swimming, ballroom dancing, scrabble, dama, billiards, archery, marksmanship, tug-of-war, and plankwalk.

Each of the five teams will be represented by a muse selected from the students of each team. She must compete in at least one sports event and will be her team's contestant for the Mutya ng Palaro 2010.

Chancellor Velasco issued Memorandum No. 92 on December 7, 2009 announcing the holding of Palarong UPLB. Based on the memo, all participants will be excused from their respective work and classes. Likewise, he called on faculty members not to schedule examinations and field trips on the said dates to facilitate maximum participation and success of the activity. The various units are expected to provide the necessary logistics such as uniforms and snacks for their respective teams, he added.
