| IMSP hosts 13th PMO regional competition |

The Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP), in cooperation with the Science Education Institute (SEI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), is holding the 13th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO). The PMO is the oldest and most prestigious nationwide mathematics competition among secondary school students. The 13th PMO is designed to select the country\'s best students in mathematical problem-solving. It is mainly among individual students and is to be done through three levels of competition beginning from the qualifying stage, to the area stage (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and NCR) and moving on to the national stage. The Region IV-A qualifying stage and area stage will be held on October 23, 2010 and November 20, 2010, respectively, at 1:00 pm in the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics, U.P.Los Baños, College, Laguna. To participate, students should accomplish the attached application form. Each school may send at most 8 students. The accomplished application form may be sent through fax, as an email attachment, through fast courier (such as LBC), snail mail or may be brought personally to: Dr. Editha C. Jose The deadline for submission of application forms is October 1, 2010. Below are instructions for coaches and students of participating schools.
3. Please bring the original copies of the duly accomplished application forms if you sent them through fax or scan-email. 4. Student examinees are advised to wear uniform and school ID (for proper identification) and to bring the following: blue or black ball pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, compass, protractor. Sign pens are not allowed. However, all final answers in the examination must be in blue or black ink. 5. Calculators are not allowed during the examination. 6. Eating inside the examination room is not allowed, hence student examinees are advised to take their snacks before the examination. However, mineral water, juice or soft drinks in plastic bottle with cap (not in can) will be allowed inside the examination room. 7. Student examinees will not be allowed to leave the examination room while taking the examination. 8. The examination will be a 30-item multiple choice exam, where 15 items will be worth 2 points each, 10 items worth 3 points each and 5 items worth 6 points each. 9. The names of the students who will qualify for the area stage will be posted in the PMO website http://mathsci.math.admu.edu.ph/pmo.
