The 5th Mathematics Consciousness Week (MCW 2010) will be held on February 23-26, 2010, with the theme "Project COUNTVille: Sowing the Seeds of Combinatorics in UPLB," which is aimed at creating awareness of combinatorics as an important discipline of mathematics with varied applications, and promoting IMSP as a center for combinatorics research in the country.

Several activities are lined up: public lectures by mathematics experts including Dr. Severino V. Gervacio (graph theory expert), mathematics exhibits, a campus-wide race to be participated in by faculty and students of the Mathematics Division, the awarding of plaques, certificates and cash prizes to Outstanding Mathematics Instructor, Outstanding Mathematics Student and Outstanding Special Problems in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, seminars and quiz contests sponsored by student organizations in IMSP, and a UPLB-wide contest titled "Math Talent Quest (MTQ): Most Creative Math Project."

MTQ is open to all students, and is designed to stimulate creativity among participants and to highlight the importance of mathematics in everyday life through puzzles, games, models, posters, essays, poems, songs, movie/video clips, audiovisual/powerpoint presentations or tilings/tessellations.

Please see posters for guidelines to this contest. For other details, please call VoIP 3701.
