Dr. William Padolina, deputy director general of the International Rice Research Institute, will be the first to be featured in the UPLB Centennial Fellow in the UPLB Centennial Lecture Series scheduled for this year. Slated on Feb. 1, 2:30 PM at the SEARCA Auditorium, Dr. Padolina's lecture will revolve around the theme of the lecture series "Visions and Pathways of Change: The UPLB of the Future." The lecture is entitled "Defining UPLB's Role in the Quest for Food Security."

This first lecture is just one of 15 lectures by renowned individuals who have made a difference in their respective fields. The centennial fellows have been identified for their expertise, leadership, depth and breadth of experience, and their rich contributions to UPLB as it charts its future in the next century.

The centennial fellows will discuss whether or not UPLB meets the essence and purpose of its existence; is efficient and effective in its delivery of services to the people; and produces graduates who meet the demands of its clients. The lecture series highlights the need for reflection, learning, and commitment-building to help map out the UPLB of the future.

The centennial lecture series is just one of the activities that UPLB has undertaken to map out the future of the University. Recently, it held strategic planning sessions and a faculty conference to discuss the findings and recommendations of a strategic review held in 2007. The strategic review was held to determine the direction that UPLB will take, how it can parlay its strengths into successes, and to identify opportunities for growth and development.
