The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat has announced the call for entries to the 2009 SEAMEO-Australia Press Award that recognizes excellent coverage of education issues by journalists in the region.

The theme "International Cooperation in Education" explores the nature of collaborations in education in Southeast Asia and how these improve peoples' lives, and commemorates SEAMEO's tenth year of bridging mass media and education and development issues in Southeast Asia.

The entries must provide 1) an analysis through experiences and insights on the impact of international cooperation in education in Southeast Asia, particularly through the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO); 2) an insightful reporting on how joint efforts of government, international non-governmental organizations, and civil societies have improved economic conditions and the quality of life of Southeast Asia; and 3) a strong human feel through the voices of different people and sectors, taking into consideration social attributes and inter-cultural understanding.

The winning entry must have been published between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 15, 2009. It must be original, written in English or any Southeast Asian languages (with English translation), and could be a single, individual article or a series of related articles. A journalist may submit more than one article.

Print journalists of SEAMEO member countries, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam are eligible to join. Journalists from online newspapers and online magazines can also enter. The last day of submission of entries is on December 31, 2009.
