Two weeks of intense competition in various sports events and other contests such as ballroom dancing, Filipino games, and DOTA in Palarong UPLB has finally seen the winners: the Blue Champs in the faculty and staff division, and the College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) in the student division.
The Blue Champs, composed of faculty and staff of the College of Arts and Sciences, took the lead at 1,170 total points. Coming in second was the Green Hunters team with 1,123 points, and in third place, the Yellow Raptors at 1,096 points.
The Green Hunters team was made up of personnel from CAFS, while the Yellow Raptors, from the Colleges of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR), Human Ecology (CHE), and Veterinary Medicine (CVM).
For the student division, the first placer (CAFS) earned a total of 1,805 points, and on second place was the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) with 1,693 points. The CVM took the third place with 1,464 points.
The winners were announced during the Closing Program of the Palarong UPLB on April 7 at the Copeland Gym. In a message on behalf of Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., Dr. Portia G. Lapitan, vice chancellor for academic affairs, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the organizers and participants of the annual sports fest. She encouraged everyone to maintain the upward and forward perspective that the sports event had advocated during its course.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Arnold R. Elepaño, dean of CEAT and chair of the Steering Committee, congratulated everyone for a job well done and for exhibiting camaraderie during the sports fest. He ended his speech by wishing success to next year’s edition of Palaro, which will be hosted by CFNR. (Jessa Jael S. Arana)
