Members of the All-UP Workers’ Union Los Baños Chapter (AUPWU-UPLB) came together at the NCAS Auditorium on March 17 to hold their general assembly and elect their officers.
In his opening remarks, Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. emphasized that it is important to revitalize and develop the work force of UP as it plays an important role in making the University a globally competitive university. He said that the UPLB administration keeps its doors open for the Union’s concerns and suggestions, and commits to take part in advancing the Union’s cause for the welfare of its members.
Asst. Prof. Genaro A. Cuaresma, assistant to the vice chancellor for administration, who represented Dr. Crisanto A. Dorado, vice chancellor for administration, underscored the importance of open communication between the Union and the University administration.
Also present during the gathering was Dr. Nestor G. Yunque, UP vice president for administration. He recalled the success of the Union in pushing for the implementation of programs that are now being enjoyed by the UP workforce, such as the Enhanced Hospitalization Program (eHOPE) and the Expanded Service Recognition Pay (eSRP) for administrative, research, extension, and professional staff. He encouraged the Union to put forward its concerns and expressed full support for expanding the benefits of UP workers.
Staff Regent Alexis Mejia, on the other hand, thanked the Union for advocating the welfare of UP employees. He encouraged the Union members to participate in the election, saying that it could be one of their contributions to serving the nation and the people.
The candidates for AUPWU-UPLB officers also presented their accomplishments and plans to achieve the Union’s agenda during the assembly.
Also present at the gathering were Prof. Nelson Jose Vincent B. Querijero, director of the UPLB Human Resources and Development Office; Noel Marquina, AUPWU national president; and Clodualdo Cabrera, former staff regent of UP.
