Department of Social Sciences

The Department of Social Sciences teaches the social components of the general education program of the students of UPLB. It is currently offering and continually enriching the social science component of the G.E. program by providing up-to-date and relevant G.E. courses. GE courses offered by the DSS are History 1 (Philippine History), History 2 (Asia and the World), Political Science 1 (Reimagining Philippine Politics), Psychology 1 (Exploring the Self: Thoughts, Feelings and Actions), Social Science 1 (Foundations of Behavioral Sciences), Social Science 2 (Social, Economic and Political Thought), and STS (Science, Technology and Society). The Department also teaches the law-mandated Rizal course known as Philippine Institutions 100 (PI 100).

It also houses the BA and MA Sociology Programs of UPLB. These programs seek to combine the breadth of the liberal arts traditions, the depth of specialization in the field of Sociology, and the flexibility of a wide range of electives in the social sciences.

INSTITUTE OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

The Institute of Biological Sciences spearheads the country in promoting the advancement of knowledge in biological sciences and in developing appreciation and concern for the environment.

To maintain this commitment, the IBS is organized into five (5) divisions active in teaching, research and extension activities, namely:
